The Climate, the People, and What to do in Sugar Land

When you visit Sugar Land, Texas you can expect to find a humid subtropical climate because the city is located in the gulf coastal plains. The vegetation found in Sugar Land can be classified as temperate grassland with an average precipitation of forty eight inches a year. During most of the year you will find the wind coming from the southeast and south which will bring the moisture and heat from the Gulf of Mexico.

During the summer months of July and August you can expect the temperatures to rise to around ninety five degrees. With the still air and high humidity that often reaches one hundred percent will make it feel much hotter. With some of the thunderstorms in the summer there may be tornado's in Sugar Land.

In the Houston area, which Sugar Land is twenty five miles from, you can expect the winters to be temperate and cool with the average high/low being around sixty two degrees. In January you will usually find the coldest period because that is when the north winds bring in the winter rains but snow in the area is almost unheard of.

Most of the people who live in Sugar Land are university educated white collar workforce that work in Houston's energy industry. Considering that Sugar Land was given the title of "Fittest City in Texas" there is a strong connection to sports and health. Both sports and health are popular at competitive levels and for recreation.

The communities first swim team was put together in 1967 and is still competitive today. The city also boasts that it has the highest Asian population in Texas today with thirty four percent of the population being Asian.

The primary entertainment district in Fort Bend County and Sugar Land is the Sugar Land Town Square. This is where you can find a variety of sidewalk cafes, restaurants, a Marriot Hotel, shopping places, mid-rise offices and homes, conference center, a public plaza, and Sugar Land City Hall. In this town square the city holds important events and festivals.

Right next to the entertainment district is the First Colony Mall, which is a major regional shopping mall with over one hundred thirty stores including Macy's, J.C. Penny, and two Dillard stores.

You can also find the Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center in which the Houston Aeros, an American Hockey League, practices. It is also an ice skating rink for the public. As you can see, Sugar Land is not only a great place to live, but also a great place to visit.
